Cliché? Maybe. Sweet? Definitely. Worth a taste? Absolutely.
There are a few “must do” activities for visitors of Singapore. Most guide books will include the usual attractions such as the Singapore Flyer and a trip to Sentosa; stops at world famous dining spots both elegant and casual; and maybe a tour of Singapore vibrant ethnic communities. Lurking on these lists, you’re sure to find some mention of the Singapore Sling.
The Cosmo team and searched the island high and low to bring you all the hot spots to try this iconic drink.
Hopscotch Bar’s Sing Sling 5O ($23) pays homage to the classic version of the Singapore Sling by keeping the base traditional, but what seem like minor alterations really make the flavours pop. Fresh pineapple foam is used instead of juice, adding a proper intensity to the drink’s tropical undertones. Instead of saccharine-sweet grenadine, a tangy hibiscus syrup is used for a sparky zing that will awaken even the sleepiest, post-work taste buds. Joel, the friendly bartender, revealed that a mix of herbs and spices was also used—including kaffir lime leaves for a gorge lightness. The flavours worked amazingly well together and I was slurping it down. A seal of approval!
P.S: The funky, almost mohawk-worthy pineapple garnish is just insta-perfect! –EN
