New Age Abacus Seeds

Hopscotch Paint Splat

In Hakka culture, recipes are considered an heirloom that’s passed through generations. One such notable dish in Hakka culture is the Abacus Seeds, or “Suan Pan Zi”. Abacus Seeds symbolises wealth and prosperity, as they are shaped like the seeds of an abacus, an ancient tool used to count money.

With modernisation, generational recipes such as the Abacus Seeds are slowly getting lost in time, especially since these dishes are so laborious to produce. This cocktail presents this dish in a modern dessert form, and pairs it together with pumpkin and praline.
